Description: When this plant first scaped as a seedling, I was astonished at the height of the beefy prong leaping skyward. I try not to get excited about such things (even though height is a big goal for me), and held my emotions for the bloom to reveal itself... seems in nearly all cases, perfect "plants" have totally butt-ugly blooms (pardon my French!). Anyway, the day the first one opened... I nearly fell over in enchantment! Attempting to hold my pulse in check, I began really examining the rest of the plant... and was nearly in tears as I realized it only had 3 branches with a total of perhaps 9 buds. I was crushed!

Ignoring (as I could) the plant as it bloomed daily for well over a week, I began wondering how it was continuing the show (with so few buds). I grabbed the scape (quite handily high), and low and behold... it was a "bud builder"!

From that moment on, I couldn't get enough crosses made with it... and in the end, nearly 30 blooms had presented in fine form. Wow... patience pays!

The "slightly different" aspects of this plant are quite numerous... the contrast of the buckskin self to the banded pattern of reds and iridescent light lavender, for starters. The fine, yet deep saturation of the dual-colored red and lavender edge... and most oddly, the contrast of the "hardness" of the edge color, and the "fizzle" effect that the outer eye band has (which is totally reliable). To get all these attributes into a package containing hardiness, height, flower size, and bud-building... is truly a leap! At the very least, it gets the mind thinking... wouldn't you say???

A great breeder for interesting patterns, too! Parent to SHELBY SOCIALITE (2009), HELLO HEARTSTRINGS (2009), and Grandparent to the newer GENTLE FAY, released in 2011.
