Cruising through the huge, dark, and very mysterious universe... this flower takes you well beyond "cloud 9", for sure! DEEPLY saturated and flawlessly huge (and "fat") purple flowers are of substance totally able to take on the blazing sun, and beautifully surreal looking with an amazingly clear watermark of light lavender. The fresh green throat spills over into light yellow and white, giving a true "big bang" in the garden! All flower segments are incredibly wide/fat, and framed perfectly with a fine white wire edge. Indeed, this cosmic flower will amaze you with it's clarity... like looking with new eyes, into the possibilities! Wonderful to have so much great quality, in a totally cold (and sun) tolerant hardy dormant purple!
As if the flower isn't enough to "space out" the onlooker, just WAIT until you see the plant habit! ENORMOUSLY beefy dark green dormant foliage and bulky plant habit is a TRUE specimen in the garden, even when not in bloom. People are constantly asking me "which of your intro's is your favorite?". Well... "Galileo" has been in my top 5 since before it even had a name. An excellent parent for reliable deep (and saturated) purples and reds, all of which sport fantastically beefy plant habit. A MUST HAVE, so GET IT!!!
I know my gal-pal Vicky Aughenbaugh will kill me for using this pic I took of her on my phone (when helping her get her South Dakota garden ready for a Regional Garden Tour), but it sure shows how BIG Mr. "Galileo" is... and in the tundra, no less! In her northern garden, this flower loses NO size... and grows to ~42" tall.
