Description: Absolutely ELECTRIFYING color saturation on this "pinker than pink" hottie, for SURE! I was fence-sitting for quite some time on this one... primarily because even though the plant habit/scape strength is second to none (being a voracious dormant a major plus), I'm personally much more attracted to huge flowers to cap such plants off with. Over time however, the "zing quality" of these HOT jewels just couldn't be denied any longer! The final straw came when teaching a Garden Judge clinic here at the nursery just this past Summer ('21), and the students (mostly who were re-certifying judges) just couldn't stop talkin' about it. If dozens of such people (while in the mindset of looking for fault) would be SO enamored by the energy of this plant, then why not just bring myself to admit it's definitely "worth it"?
I've included several photos here (as always, to best show the variations of lighting/time of day looks). While the sunny shots are meant to show substance and texture, it's really in low lighting (morning, eve, overcast days) that these pink/red blends really hit the wavelengths of color that literally hurt your eyes to look at. There's a very ethereal lavender watermark that spreads a sheen over the whole bloom then, which adds an entirely enhanced dimension to the whole thing... a true "sparkle".
So... if you're lookin' for some intoxicating stimulation to make YOUR garden visitors start blabbin' like crazy 'bout your daylilies, then this one may just be it! As they go into the predictable lip-flutterin' as they do here, then just tell 'em to just hush THEIR mouths... and enjoy the view!
Note: The original name of this one was "Crown Joules", but had to be changed.
