Watch out, this total BEAUTY of a big garden flower hides a BEAST of a plant! Rich, deep, and large dark purple flowers are spellbinding and exceptionally numerous on this creature (especially with lightning-fast rebloom, as seen in the scape photo - that's the new scape coming on my fingertips)... and certainly alluring enough to catch even distant attention! Green throats are really most noticeable, to me, when on really dark colors like this... especially when a light eyewash emanates so clearly from it. When living in PA, dark purples and reds were my fave by far... but moving to NC has unfortunately taught me that they can be quite susceptible to the heat of intense sunlight (become glazed, if not "melt" altogether). I've tossed thousands of this class to the compost pile as a result since getting here, but have also inadvertently learned that some seem to be MUCH more resistant to the brutal sun. This is one of them!

A tough-as-nails dormant plant that truly contains a "beast within" those deep purple (and gorgeously sheened) huge ruffled flowers. Remarkable deep and well-branched scapes (buds spaced nicely), reblooming with a vengeance (even in zones 4-5!). Great substance, with fantastic sun-resistance. Pod fertile to nearly a fault, and producing quality kids as a result 'round hereI had very little of this plant to begin with... and it didn't take many to sell out for the first several years (a true "supply vs. demand" issue, as it's known as a great breeder). It never got much circulation as a result, yet reports from its performance in the north has been numerous now... and unanimously outstanding.

2022: I've been out of this hottie for ages, but just bartered to get some back... so after years in "Archives", it's BACK! Rather limited, though.
