Description:

Having started my daylily endeavors in northern PA, one characteristic that truly swept me to the mercy of our beloved daylilies was color... their saturation and intensity. When I started breeding, I quickly moved toward deep red and purple, obsessed with coming up with offspring that would hopefully soothe my obsession. This one most surely gave it to me, and in a BIG way! And much to my happiness, its great form and substance made it very colorfast after moving here to NC (where the sun is much more intense)... which I really can't say for the majority in the same color genre.

As rich as can be, this heavily ruffled (and nearly rubber-like) near-black purple has an unbelievable amount of velvet sheen to it, literally glistening in defiance of the mid afternoon sun! HUGE Beefy plants are hardy as boulders, and produce nice tall (and deeply branched), thick, well-branched scapes for the ultimate display of this beauty. You too, can possess this obsession!

Sinfully fertile and GREAT breeder for large flowered, tall, deeply saturated, and great performing plants... like award-winning "Gorilla in the Mist" (Owen, '11), "Loverboy" (Owen, '09), and "U Know U Want Me" (Owen, '14).

The saddest thing about this introduction, was that I lost nearly all I had in 2008 (first year after coming out with it, with too few to begin with) due to a tree that was downed in a local tornado... that literally pulverized all but 2 fans. It took 3 years before I could offer it again. Because of so little that was sold over its first 5 years, there's really not much of this plant out there. I only wish I could "re-introduce" it, because it's worth a lot more than the asking price... but I know how daylily people can be - if it's not "brand new", they don't want it (SO strange, but true!).
