Description: Double daylilies are definitely in a "class of their own", and for quite some time early on, not exactly a fave of northern gardeners. It wasn't so much that they weren't gorgeous, it was that they just didn't live... so that overly risky "class" was pretty much labeled... "undesirable". There were definitely a few that truly thrived in the north though - the most fun for me was "Scatterbrain", which was also a foundation for a lot of unusual form (crispate) doubles... but yet again, as much fun as they are, most are really tender. Not any more!
Pulling in some of Frank Kropf's well branched doubles was definitely needed, in order to get over the top-branched wadding of blooms that has been a historical issue with these types... which has led me to several introductions already, that have "it all" - including rock-solid dormant/cold tolerant habit. THIS new (and VERY cheerful!) gal has even MORE though - AMAZING bloom size, on MASSIVE habit! Not a dormant, but plenty enough in her heritage to insure no issues with extremes - and root structure that clearly shows storage during the winter (a dormant trait). WOO HOOOOO!!!
Wild form... amazingly bright color... massive habit... hardiness... giant flowers... REBLOOM... enough major "improvements" on the class to make ya feel a little "Slap Happy" yet??? It SURE does ME, but I already own one!
