Description: The amazing and very vivid contrast of the purple/red pattern against this near-white literally VIBRATES in its intensity!!! Like a sound wave, it literally moves one to see it... the speckling on the outside of the eyeliner is actually noticiable, in person. Not enough? NO worries! Even though initial scapes would be considered "ample performers" for ANY daylily, THIS hottie reblooms with a vengeance... making for an incredibly LONG season! Look at the "clump" shot: Not the best pic (took it for my own reference), but shows how a 3 fan division (planted just the previous Fall) pumped up TEN scapes its first year out. This kind of long-season performance takes it from EM season until frost. LOVE THIS GAL!!!
Have to thank Jim Murphy for providing a lot of inspiration on this TRULY amazing plant! His "Ocean Spirit" gave me the beautiful flower, and his "Jim's Evil Grin" the wonderful scapes and height. Adding the pattern with one of Jack Carpenter's kids simply provided some "flair"! I'd forgotten just how nice it is to have stability in patterns... something that almost doesn't exist in tet's. No way getting into the pattern business, but it sure is a fun thing to see... when it works like THIS!
I chose the name "Sonique" for this hottie not only as an "exotic" way of pointing out the "sonic" effect of the pattern, but also to pay a little tribute to one of my fave disco artists from the late 90's/early 2000's. Indeed, I was a "club kid" in my 20's... and even though that period was waning for me by the time Sonique had her biggest hits, I truly just LOOOOOOOOOOOVED her!!! I always felt so "FREE!" when dancin' into the morning hours to her music, and even though I've found other ways (and hours of day!) to experience life... I'll never forget her. She was just AWESOME!
