Description: Indeed, that's yours truly, standing behind double fans (that's not a clump!) that were lined out for sales REALLY late the previous year (November, after first freeze!)! AMAZING recovery, and WHAT a SHOW!!! For sure, this plant is forever vying for the best of the "Giant" series plants I've come up with!
Actually... if you blow up and look closely at that scape photo, notice that the lateral branches bifurcate (split) TWICE! WHAT?! AMAZING! Yes, from wrist to finger tips, that's all ONE scape! Almost as if the scape... has scapes! You can see the upper part of the taller scapes in the background... just craziness! Indeed, the one I'm holding had an incredible 14 terminal whorls of buds. Now THAT'S a "garden worthy" daylily, and worth THOUSANDS of pretty pictures (if ya ask ME!)!!! Fans are ankle-size on this behemoth!!!
And the blooms??? Well, once the massive plants are done with the initial amazing show of merely producing such a maze of branches and buds, it's time to OPEN FIRE with a TOTAL BLAST of incredible (and searing!) COLOR! WOO HOOOOO!!! A perfect blend of red and orange creates a particular wavelength of color that nearly makes your eyes nearly burn, and this one captures that intensity in great fashion. The watermark is a great addition for some added interest, but the sheer volume of the overall plant habit/blooms/color is what INTENSITY in the garden (and full-season garden VALUE) is ALL about!
2022: FINALLY managed to get this hottie back in stock here, as it's sold out every year since intro. Breeders love it, as it's wickedly pod fertile (and passes not only giant plant habit to kids, but fiery clarity in blooms as well).
