Daylily: Miss Conduct

I’ve actually had this plant longer than most… as I saw it as more as a “novelty” daylily, because the look of it varies SO dramatically from day to day (not each individual bloom, but ALL that bloom any given day). Born primarily from plants I’d done in the past as “patterned”, I learned quickly that patterns in tetraploids are unreliable (at best)… and quit working on them, as people would get pissy if the flowers weren’t EXACTLY like the one I’d show when introducing (BIG part of the reason I show so many now- so people know flowers look different according to time of day/shade or not/temperatures). Furthermore, this one “only” sports branching and bud count that are more common than the ones I see fit to name. HOWever…

As it turned out, nearly everyone who saw this plant in my display garden would inquire about it… ‘cuz no matter what “look” it has on the day of their visit, it’s just plain COOL!!! Patterned, spotted, rugged piecrust, strongly reverse-bitone… it just doesn’t matter! In shade, the eye can be an intense royal blue… or not. In sun, it sparkles… no matter what. The plethora of colors is definitely “unique”, I’ll give it that much – and the fact that it reblooms well here does indeed make up for what I once considered a fault.

No rhyme, no reason… but definitely “slightly different”! Hardy dormant, t'boot. I will say however, that with today's wildly fluctuating temps over bloom season, THIS particular gal has really been putting on a different show almost daily… and I just LOVE it! I think YOU will, TOO!!!
