Wow... just where to start... with a plant just soooooo uniformly... beautiful?
I would have never believed that I could ever "improve" on Miss "Hypatia", 'cuz that one has me wrapped around her tiniest of fronds since her get-go. When "Oh Me!" came about, with her huge size and robust attitude... I thought... well, could it happen? Well, I'm here to tell ya... IT DID!!!!! This "baby" of those two lustful lassies has TRULY hit a new mark, and I just couldn't be more THRILLED!!!
20 years ago, you'd have NEVER convinced me that diploids would EVER take on dimensions like I've been getting here. The days of grassy foliage and twiggy scapes are truly a thing of the past, and when plants like this come about, there sure is a wonderful feeling of accomplishment that comes right along with 'em! I mean really... just look at the pics! While I'd NEVER say I've "improved" on "Hypatia", I'll at least say... I've managed to come up with a "slightly different" presentation of such an incredible scheme! How's that?! THIS beauty is approaching my own tetraploid "Giant" proportions, for an completely different look IN the garden!
I know y'all are likely tired of hearin' me rave so much about my Mom, but you're just gonna have to listen to even more of it here! The 'ole gal has FINALLY sold her house in FL, and moved in with us here FULL time... AT LAST!!! WOO HOOOOO!!! Enough with this just coming for 3-4 months of Summer every year business (for 25 years)... and I'm SOOOO GLAD she's here to rough up now, ALL year LONG!!!
The reason I picked this plant to dedicate to Mom, is because this color scheme (she calls it "Easter flowers") is her absolute fave. It's been a while since I've done this ("Momma Told Me So", "Soft Hearted Mother", and "Butterfly Ann" were the others)... not because she's not deserved an new one (but don't tell HER that, it's good leverage), but because if I'm gonna do this for someone I love so much, then it had better be a DAMN GOOD PLANT. Now you know I've got pretty high standards regarding such things, so believe me, I wasn't about to screw this up!!! Trust me... even at 91, Mom still has a pretty good backhand!!!
Yes, I guess you could say the "gift" here is for Mom... but in reality, the TRUE "gift" has been having her as my Mother. For all the love I have to give... this gift's for YOU, Mom!!!
