Description: 2022: Be sure and check out the video I got of a display plant this past season (below!)!
I was SO happy that Ellen Laprise sent me her near-white "Isabelle Rose" (and others) so that I could have a showcase garden for her during the AHS Nat'l garden tours here in '14, but by far, Miss Isabel was THE biggest hit! I really loved that award-winning plant, and carried it in my own inventory for several more years... though as beautiful as she was (and NOT to knock her very unique and established value), I really did see some potential improvements that could be made. For the flower... bigger, and more of 'em? For the plant... a hardier habit, and stronger scaping? Worth at least a TRY? Soooo... to work, I went! I've bloomed out over 2K seedlings from Miss Izzie, some created for my UF doubles program (which is going great)... and some to see if I could possibly get an even better Isabelle??? Well... I got VERY lucky, and HERE'S the ULTIMATE result I could have ever dreamed of!
As a seedling clump, the enormous initial blooms were easily producing 11-12" flowers (14-15" wingspan), but over time, eventually settled to the 9" range. This massive (and very hardy!) honey is just amazing to see in the gardens. It's ridiculously hard to get a true performer (especially using my ridiculous standards) in the near-white genre, and without Ellen's help, I could have never done it. I rarely seem to "get lucky"... but this time? I most definitely did. Not just for having created this amazing plant, but for meeting someone as wholeheartedly sweet... as Ellen. THANK YOU SO MUCH for such inspiration, Honeyyyyyyyy!!! :-*
