Description: Whatta cool look this gal has! It took me a while to figure out just why it kept grabbing my attention as a seedling, as to be honest, its height was rather low for my liking. The flower was large, and indeed the light pink self was quite sweet… but actually, it was the unusual shade and texture of the green throat (and compliment to the light pink) that really got me. Better yet, the color combo holds up throughout the hottest of Summer days… when the edges take on a very “frilly” look, with gentle waves of tantalizing ruffles. Though I generally feel larger flowers should be on taller scapes, I’ve long since learned that large flowers CAN be quite useful in a “front of the border” situ… and THIS one is built for JUST that! Unmistakable product of its heritage, including rock-solid dormant habit.
On a GORGEOUS Summer day of 2018 (during peak bloom, of course), a big group of folks from the Mid-Carolina Daylily Society (based in Columbia, SC) came up to see me and the kids. We had SOOOO much FUN! Kinda unavoidable really, with such FANTASTIC people being from that club! I have to admit though, Peggy Jeffcoat literally owns a piece of my heart… the perpetual “ring leader” of not only the MCDS, but has been a daylily philanthropist in our Region for decades! They ALL found TONS of “must have” daylilies while scattering about the place (including Peg!), and truly ran my ‘ole butt ragged with all the diggin’! It was SUCH a “win-win” day for us all, that I just had to do something special for ‘em. I had this plant already lined for intro this year, so I gave each person a piece as a gift… and promised to name it after THEM! WOO HOO!!! Meanwhile, it wasn’t hard to notice that the ENTIRE group… was ALL women! We boxed around a few ideas, and indeed, came up with “Mid-Carolina Mommas”! Needless to say, I don’t have a “ton” after giving so much away… but hey, life is about more than just sales! It does my heart good, to know they’ll always remember that AWESOME day… every time it blooms in their gardens.
