Daylily: Liquid Asset*

I can't really think of what I can tell ya 'bout this plant... that even if you're sportin' just one decent eye in your head, ya can't already see in the photos and stat's! SO many things go through my mind when evaluating seedlings, and at a truly fast pace. When watching THIS plant evolve however, the only thing to really come out of me was a low, elongated, and guttural... "WOW...".

Because of my personal craving for "giant" specimen daylilies in my own gardens, I rather phased out working with diploids for several years (2001-05). When a latent batch of diploid seedlings matured in a distal bed here however, I realized I'd been grossly negligent of the class! I found "Carol Van Sciver", "Faber Saber", and "Work it Girl" in that patch after all... so back to work I went! SO glad I did, too... or I'd not have had the experience of seeing THIS kind of distinctive beauty in my gardens. Indeed... "WOW"!!!

The overall proportions of this plant are simply amazing to see in the garden... which you can get somewhat of a hint of, in the multi-bloom photo. That photo, by the way, is actually of just a few double fans that were lined the previous Fall... pretty amazing recovery for a diploid, no? The flower form is impeccably stunning on such a massive flower, no matter the cascading design it decides upon each day.

For breeders:  Know this plant (unlike many of it's ilk) is VERY pod fertile.  Also has no ties to RFK, so a great batch of new genes for green.

This plant sold out the year I introduced it (surprised?), and at $195. If it's currently available, and for less than that... I'd reeeeally suggest getting it, like "now"!
