Description: 2013 AHS HM Award Winner!!! Rather a feat, only 3 years after being introduced!
Once in a while, you meet someone who has such a dynamic about themselves that they truly "shine with goodness". Well... I can honestly say that I've been so lucky as to meet just such a gal! Many years ago, a daylily lover that was tucked into the tundra of Iroquois, SD, ordered some daylilies from me... and little did I know she'd become the endearing friend and compatriot that she has today. Years of email and phone conversations later, we finally met at the AHS National Convention in FL in May of 2009. Among all the hustle-bustle, and through the hundreds of people in attendance there, I happened to lock gazes with a very unassuming lady standing among them... and I knew immediately who she was... Vicky Aughenbaugh. Indeed, the gal herself absolutely "radiates goodness"! Truly inspiring, and bursting with qualities... naming this very-dear-to-me plant was just... pure destiny!
The totally clear and clean purity of this flaming coral pink flower is like no other. Large flowers with open form are framed beautifully with gold to coral tentacles, atop tall and extremely well branched scapes of rigid and sure foundation... which rebloom quickly. In the "scape photo", know that the plant there was a single fan... lined the previous Fall... and even under such abuse you can see the first scape still has a few buds on it, but the rebloom is already underway! Have MERCY!!! Vivacious healthy dormant plants are quite vigorous, with fans quite enormous. I've heard it referred to by at least one AHS Garden Judge Instructor (while teaching) as "the Perfect Daylily". For sure, just like Vicky... it's a beauty... inside, and out!
Wickedly pod fertile, and great parent for dormant reblooming plants with massive scapes and habit!
Sells out every year.
