Description: 2018 AHS HM Award Winner!!!
Indeed, it was tough for me to capture the feeling of where viewing the invariable bouquets of this sedate and wonderful flower was taking me... as if the cool lavender-pink self and stellar green to white throat were carrying me off to some magical dreamland. For sure, a perfect name... thanks pal Kevin Walek, who reminded me of the Moody Blues song that fit this plant so well!
This flower contains a gorgeous pastel lavender eyewash, that in late day (or warm temps) becomes a nearly a sky blue... fabulous against the pastel lavender/pink self. The flower itself morphs from a deeper pink to lavender through the course of the day (as shown). There are actually 4 color bands beyond the VERY large and clean wax green throat... yellow, red, slate lavender, and then purple. Happily, the wash spills quite heartily out onto the inner petal edges.
What's even more fulfilling for me where this beautiful dreamer is concerned, is that this whole package is presented on outlandishly massive scapes that have reliable bifurcating lateral branches (creating a true "candelabra" style branching, with double the number of terminal whorls/buds)... atop dormant and VERY heavy plant habit. Can easily reach 36-38" in good conditions. Still unimpressed? Consider that in the second photo, the scape against my forearm is the immediate rebloom to the scape on the right! Enough to take a far-northern gardener looking for distinction directly into "never-never land"... no doubt! Wickedly pod fertile, and with a recessive lavender base, usable for a wide range of breeding goals... as long as they include AMAZING plant habit, which it passes without fail!
Sells out every season, so get it now... or "dream" for another year!
