Description: Well... WHAM, BAM!!! THIS feisty guy DEFINITELY likes her espresso in the mornin'! I'm not one to criticize whatever "gets a guy through the day", but DANG... this fella is assuredly... TWEAKED OUT!!!
These SEARING blooms are just TOO entertaining!!! Generally starting out at ~9", these contorted monsters just can NOT be missed in the gardens! Honestly, there's not a soul who's come through the nursery and NOT inquired about it while I was increasing it for introduction... now we'll just see how many were truthful when they SWORE they'd buy it when released! ;-) Update 2019: It sold out - they weren't kidding! WOO HOO!!!
This plant has massive tet-like foliage, healthy green and very wide. I love the color contrast within the blooms, and the overall vigorous look of it... no matter where I've put it in the nursery. The petals are VERY consistently pinched (or "tweaked", depending on how ya look at it!), making it an official "unusual form" ("UF")... of the "crispate" variety. Even cooler, the buds partially open the day before bloom, making for a "balloon" look (see the photo!), which I've always LOVED about actual balloon flower (platycodon). When I've seen the latter in other plants that have the trait, blooms can be splotchy (dew gets in overnight/early, and spoils the bloom)... but NOT with this one, it's consistently clear. Because of dependable/fast rebloom on EVERY fan, it increases rapidly. Overall, due to rapid-fire rebloom (here in z7, I get a FULL 3 sets of scapes every year), the bloom season is a full 3 months on it... and the "garden visitor satisfaction"? Just CAN'T be BEAT!!!
Indeed... if ya wanna party in your garden (not to mention some "curb appeal"!), then this plant is the one you're lookin' for! WOO HOO!!!
Quite honestly, this may be one of the best plants I've ever produced.
