Description: WOW!!!
People are forever asking me... "Which of all the plants you've created do you love the most???". I kinda hate to play favorites, but I indeed DO have them... but since I know that opinion can change every year, I really try not to voice anything more specific than the "top 5". I'm pretty sure now though, that THIS plant may indeed be... on that list for the rest of my entire life! Considering I've introduced nearly 300 daylilies at this point, that's honestly sayin' somethin'. When anyone comes to the nursery, they definitely want to know more about it... and it was a friend that stopped by in 2019 that got a shot of me and this big hussie with her phone, 'cuz she wanted to show for real... that "that Miss Wanda is bigger than your HEAD!"!
What a GORGEOUS daylily!!! The largest of the flowers I've come up with in my quest for "all green", and the most amazing presentation of the lot! A TOTAL spectacle since its early days here... standing out among hundreds of siblings, with its massive green throat overlaying the very light cream (with just an occasional touch of pastel peach) atop outstanding scapes (often to 38"). Adding in the UF crispate quality was just a FUN addition... wondering what form it would take each day had me running for it every morning! It doesn't have "incredible" branching, but it's indeed a "bud builder". In 2019, conditions were great for that trait... and these plants had sported as many as 42 buds by season's end.
Due to this flower's "wild" nature, I thought it was a PERFECT candidate to name for one of the most dynamic, loving, positive, industrious, and motivated people I've ever met... Wanda Willis (of Gaston County, NC). Wanda is SO much more than a mere "delight"... she's a literal POWERHOUSE of energy! Besides being a fuel to the Master Gardner's program, she also has an AHS Daylily Display garden that's TO DIE FOR! She's constantly in motion... and NEVER alone (she finds laziness "unacceptable", so drags as many friends as she can everywhere she goes... like it, or not!)! I'm SO thrilled to be able to name this flower in her honor, and just HOPE it can live up to her standards! I know Jim, her awesome hubby, has quite a time with that too! ;-)
2022: I had little of this plant to begin with, and never have more than a few to sell each year. Really limited this year, as usual.
