Description: One of the most amazing mid-season performers of my "Giants"! Intense red/purple color saturation of blooms (midrib stipe for contrast), enormous fans, "over the top" scapes, candelabra branching, dormant habit... the list just goes on and on. THIS one wins gets a "statuesque" award (which its award-winning parent "Lovely Miss Laucius" is known for), with a most beautiful presentation of blooms. In the clump shot, though I'm mad I didn't get a selfie next to it (for dimension), realize that marker is 18" tall. Now, it may not look like it's a very tall plant due to being surrounded by its half-sisters... but it's a WHOPPER, in EVERY respect!
The naming of this plant was a no-brainer for me. When I lived in PA, I met a couple o' guys who had the MOST amaaaaaazing property and gardens... TO DIE FOR, I tell ya! Will Eldridge and Fred Broxon combined their names to give their "plantation" the designation of "Willfred"... and I can only hope this new daylily cultivar will do their estate justice! These two guys are of the most active and FUN people I've ever met... we've been across the globe with them, and trust me, they're a HOOT! Will is exceptionally tall (statuesque!), and a Cajun by birth... and I just hope he loves this plant, as much as I've truly loved having him as a best friend for nearly 20 years. THANKS you guys, for providing SUCH wonderful times to my life!!!
