Description: To me, Margo Reed has been an inspiration... not just with her world-renown
abilities in hybridizing, but in her innate ability to be so well loved.
I'm sure Jim, her hubby, would be the first to agree!
Margo is a gal who loves life. I could tell that when first seeing
pictures of her home and gardens... a simply STUNNING spot, right in the Blue
Ridge Mountains of VA. Anyone who has the vision to create such beauty is
definitely going to be someone I admire, and she didn't prove that wrong... at
ALL! It's been SO wonderful getting to know her (as well as Jim!) over the
years... even getting to spend a full weekend with the dynamic duo here at the
farm, and show them the true excitement of Polkville! When they got home,
they wasted NO time is sending me a huge "care package" of truly awesome trees
that they knew I could use... which are now foundations in the new display
garden. I just LOVE that... 'cuz now I can (and DO) remember them each and
every day!
Indeed, Margo is a "giver". Lord knows how many kindergarteners she's
impressed over her teaching career, giving sure-to-be lessons about the beauty
of nature. She's not only created incredible beauty (and on MANY
levels), but shared it with thousands. After what just has to be
an exhausting day of chasing 5-year-olds... she still finds the time to mend to
her gardens, judge daylily exhibitions (and teach others how to as well), and
serve on a myriad of boards and committees! To do all she does, and still
maintain the most wonderful "presence" that she so fluidly does... well... it's
just "lovely", dontcha think? ;-)
I love Margo's plants... that's all there is to it. They're fun,
they're festive, and they're FABULOUS! She creates primarily diploids, but
I have it on good authority to tell ya that she secretly does indeed like
particular tetraploid! Uh huh... you heard right! Once I worked it
out of her, I also figured out just what I might have that would blow her
tie-dyed skirt up, too! SO... after sneaking around my tet beds for 2 full
years to find the PERFECT plant to surprise her with... I finally DID! WOO
HOO!
Margo loves "fresh colors"... and the way this one's vibrant waxy green
throat flows out into yellow, then mandarin orange, to a veined pink is as FRESH
as can be! The extra large open and full form with gentle ruffles is RIGHT
up her alley! The fact that it reblooms so quickly is SURE to make her
happy, too! Of course, I do LOVE my dip's too... but I just can't help
myself but try my VERY BEST to tempt this woman "to the other side".
Something about "corrupting the incorruptible" sounds so appealing to me for
some reason, even if it just means teasing Margo... just a little bit. ;-)
